Syrups, Essences & Jellies
Syrup:Syrup is the thick, sweet liquid you pour on your blueberry pancakes. Maple syrup is just one of many deliciously sticky types of syrup. Syrup is a sweetener that dissolves in liquid more quickly and easily than sugar, so it's often used in beverages.
Essences:When used in cooking, essence refers to an aromatic extract that is concentrated. Vanilla, truffle and almond are examples of essence that can also come in synthetic forms. Essence is usually used to give something with less flavor a higher quality of flavor.
Jelly:Jelly, a semitransparent confection consisting of the strained juice of various fruits or vegetables, singly or in combination, sweetened, boiled, slowly simmered, and congealed, often with the aid of pectin, gelatin, or a similar substance.
